Unseen benefits of a Cutting Garden
What will a cutting garden give you?
-Well, beyond the obvious things of beautiful flowers a cutting garden will add so much to your life that you may not have thought about.
A Cutting Garden will give you:
time spent outdoors with your children, not in front of screens
This might seem really obvious, but I know that screen for myself and for my children are something that I intentionally need to keep to a minimum. This also means replacing screen time with thoughtful, meaningful activities. Growing flowers is a great way to keep the screen at bay.
wonder, delight, enjoyment
This cannot be overstated. Growing flowers will add delight and beauty to your life….period. I just don’t see how this could be wrong. In my life it has certainly proven to be true.
abundance to share with others
Cut flowers produce to many stems on such a small amount of space you WILL have flowers to share with others. Because when you have such a beautiful thing you cannot help but give it away to others as well.
It will allow you to teach your children.
I know that your little children follow you around every where you go. They learn by watching you and doing what you do as well. They learn from what you do. So teach them a valuable skill of growing flowers so they can look back on their childhood and remember the beauty of working outside in the garden with their mom. Along the way they might learn the names of the flowers, what compost is, and how to plant flowers. BUT they most defiantly will kill and trample some flowers as well…it’s just part of the ride mama.
lifelong learning
Learning something new keeps us young, and young at heart. You are never to old to learn something new. And growing a cutting garden is a great way to keep on learning. You will literally get your hands in the dirt and learn a new skill.
Many of these things cannot be bought with money, and cannot be held in your hands…
But, this is the important things of life…this is where we learn what really matters so us.
We also teach our children what is important by what we spend our time and money on. They are always watching and learning from us.
I pray that I am teaching my children good things not bad (like how to react in a patient way…instead of an impatient way….I’m still working on this).
