It’s Finally HERE! The most Amazing Savory Roll Recipe that Everyone Wants

I love to make bread and rolls for my family, but there is one bread item that I make that everyone asks me for the recipe. Since it takes a little bit to explain I’m selfishly writing a blog post about it so I don’t have to keep telling people the recipe.

So here you go…..

First, you can use any dough recipe that you enjoy. I use the same bread dough recipe that I use for my regular everyday bread that I make for my family. The dough recipe that I use is at the end of this blog, but the magic is in what you do with the dough.

After your dough is mixed and ready to go, Preheat you oven to 400 degrees. Get out a cast-iron pan, or a glass pan and put 1/2 a stick of butter in the pan and put the pan with the butter into the oven while it preheats.

Meanwhile cut your dough into sections and form them into rolls. You can make your rolls as big or as little as you would like. Personally I usually make 16-20 rolls depending on what I am using the rolls for.

Usually by this time you butter is melted.

Take you pan out of the hot pre-heated oven and add spices to the melted butter. You can add whatever spices you want, but I always add these 3 things:

-a good amount of sea salt

-Italian seasonings

-garlic salt

(I never measure, I just sprinkle a bit in the butter)

Now take each roll and roll it in the butter/spices mix and fill up your pan with delicious, spiced, buttered dough.

Now put it in the over…yes that’s right, you don’t have to let these rise. The hot oven, with the hot butter just makes your dough spring right up in the oven.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 18 min, until nice and golden brown.

Now enjoy the most amazing savory rolls you have ever had in your life and then direct all your friends back to this blog for the recipe, because everyone will ask you for it.

A few notes:

You do not need to let your bread rise even after you have first make it. You simply mix it up, kneed it well, and shape into rolls and put them in the oven.

This is the fastest way to make amazing homemade bread rolls EVER.

I personally mix up my bread dough in my Zojirushi Bread Machine. I believe it is the best on the market and the price tag reflects this. I have used this machine 3-5x per week for the last 4 1/2 years. It is the workhorse of my kitchen and what allows me to make bread year round even during the crazy summer months of farming for my family.

I use this machine to make bread every week-usually about 3x/week for my family of 6. I also use this on a dough setting to mix up all my bread dough including these rolls, pizza dough, and any other bread dough that I make.

I grind all my own wheat berries into flour using my Whisper Mill wheat grinder.

Grinding your own grains is the most healthy flour you can feed your family and makes all bread products taste way better.

(I did not believe this until I was at my in-laws and made my regular muffins recipe with regular store bought flour….there were totally different muffins and not nearly as good.)

I am not an expert on this, I learned everything from the Bread Beckers and other sources. So if you are interested please do your own research.

This is the bread recipe that I use on a daily basis. It is from “The Bread Beckers” and they graciously allowed me to share it here with you all.

Basic Bread Dough Recipe from The Bread Beckers:

1 1/2 cups of warm water

4 1/2 cups of flour (you can use all purpose flour if using store bought flour, If using wheat berries I use 2/3 of hard red wheat and 1/3 of hard white wheat, but you can use any percentage you want)

1/3 cup oil

1/3 cup honey

2 tsp salt

1 TBS yeast

OPTIONAL: 2 TBSP of millet and/or raw sunflower seeds

Did I mention it it simple….

Ok, so if you don’t know how to make dough here is a quick tutorial.

Start with warm water and dissolve your yeast in the warm water. Then add salt, oil, and honey. Slowly add the four, a little at a time, as you mix it in until it is not sticky anymore, but be careful not to add too much flour or it will make it too dry. Make sure you knead the dough for about 7 min in a machine or 20 minutes if doing it by hand.

I dump everything in my Bread Machine and push 3 buttons and it does all the work for me. It takes me about 3 minutes to grind the wheat, put everything in the machine, and put everything away. The dough is ready in 20 minutes.

Then just prepare as stated above…
